In this paper, a new method based on continuous wavelet transform (CWT) is presented to estimate the dynamic characteristics of the passive rubber engine mount (PREM), including the damped natural frequency and hysteretic damping ratio (HDR). The results of this research can be used to develop the technology and the experimental tests such as modal analysis to describe the behavior of hyperelastic materials in reducing noise transmission, vibrations and shock vibrations in resonance. The PREM will creep under the action of long-term load. Creep will change its original structure, resulting in changes in dynamic characteristics such as dynamic stiffness and HDR. These changes, which are often incremental and can also be caused by long-term storage by auto parts manufacturers, are considered as damage in PREMs. Hence, in this work, fault diagnosis in the PREMs in two cases of 25% and 55% increase in stiffness and hysteretic damping factor is also investigated using CWT. A single degree-of-freedom vibrating system subjected to an impulse input is modeled for the PREM. First, the energy distribution of the acceleration signal using the Morlet-based CWT is applied to determine the damped natural frequency of the system. Then, its HDR is estimated from the slope of the line obtained by plotting the cross-section for the logarithm of the CWT against time. By comparison of the estimated parameters and actual values, it can be concluded that the presented approach is highly accurate and efficient to estimate the dynamic properties of the PREM.
